The Bayelsa State Government has set up a five-man conflict resolution committee to look into the lingering communal leadership crisis in Amassoma community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.
The Committee, which has as its Chairman, the Commissioner for Community Development, Mr. Watson Belemote, was mandated to holistically appraise the issues behind the emergence of a parallel community development committee (CDC) and youth leadership in the community.
Constituting the committee at a meeting with community leaders and stakeholders of Amassoma in Government House, Yenagoa, the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, said the existence of a parallel CDC, youth leadership in Amassoma was a recipe for a serious crisis in the community.
The Deputy Governor, therefore, charged the committee to do a thorough job to enable government make informed decisions to resolve the issue amicably.
He commended the Amananaowei of Amassoma and other leaders of the community for their efforts so far, and urged them to continue to toe the path of peace, as government takes necessary steps to resolve the issue..
The committee also has the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Biriyai Dambo (SAN), and the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Kemepado Alfred as members.
Others are the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Collins Ifidi, and the Director of Human Resources Management, Deputy Governor’s Office, Mr. Ebi Wilson.
