By Milcah Tanimu

A police sergeant, identified as Sunday Wadzani, has reportedly killed his father in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. The tragic incident occurred near the State Police Command headquarters in Modugannari on Sunday.

According to sources, Wadzani, who is attached to the Borno State House of Assembly complex, shot his father, Retired ASP Wadzani Ntasiri, seven times following a minor disagreement. The incident occurred around 4:20 PM on July 21, 2024. Wadzani has been apprehended and is currently in custody at the GRA Police Station.

The motive behind Wadzani’s actions remains unclear, and the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Kenneth Daso, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

In a separate incident, Inspector Shehu Oyibo of the Nigerian Police Force was killed by gunmen in Abia State. Oyibo, who was part of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), was attacked along with his team by assailants operating from a Toyota Sienna bus on Mosque Street, Ngwa Road, in Aba. Three civilians were also killed during the attack.

The Abia State Command Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident, noting that the attack comes three weeks after the loss of two other police officers at Opobo Junction, Ogbor Hill, Aba. Despite the attack, the police team managed to defend themselves against the assailants.
