200 People benefit from DNKI free medical outreach in Bayelsa

Over 200 persons have benefitted from a one-day free medical outreach organised by the Bayelsa State Chapter of De Norsemen Kclub International (DKNI)

The outreach which took place at Swali Market had beneficiaries received treatments for blood sugar test,free BP check, health education, eye test and distribution of glasses.

Others are free mosquito nets and aprons distributed to traders, consultation and treatment of common ailments with surgical operations for patients with hernia, lipoma and appendice.

Speaking with newsmen during the programme, Guv’nor of the State Chapter, Chief Anthony Oboghor, who noted that DNKI is a humanitarian organization, said the gesture is in line with the motto of the organization, “Service To Humanity'”.

Chief Oboghor said the state chapter decided to embark on the free medical outreach to bring healthcare delivery closer to those who are too busy to go to the hospital because of their tight schedule, while assuring that the programme will be sustained.

He cited other gestures carried out in the past to include blood donations to hospitals in honour of World Blood Donor Day, campaign against drug abuse, provision of trafficking stands to the Bayelsa Police Command, construction of receptacles around Yenagoa, screen naming, visit to orphanages and Nigerian Correctional Service among others.

The State Chapter Guv’nor applauded the Humanitarian Committee which put the programme together as well as the medical practitioners for their effort, while appealing to well-spiritedi individuals and organizations to emulate DNKI in providing succour to indigent and vulnerable people in the society.

Secretary of the organization, Hon. Iniye Janes-Apoah said he was impressed with the number of beneficiaries, noting that the essence of the programme was to ensure good health for the people of Swali market and environs.

Chairman of the Humanitarian Committee, Mr Kemi Ungbuku thanked the traders and store owners at Swali Market as well as residents of the area for taking advantage of the programme to receive free medical care.

Director of the Medical Committee, Dr Vivacious Otiti, who explained that the State DNKI Chapter carries out humanitarian gestures quarterly, said they chose Swali market because of reports over untimely and avoidable deaths of traders owing to lack of proper care.

Two beneficiaries, who did not want their names mentioned, thanked the State DNKI Chapter for providing them free medical care and appealed to the state government and other stakeholders in the society to partner with them to make society better.
