FG Targets #EndBadGovernance Protest Sponsors with New Measures

By Milcah Tanimu

The Nigerian government has announced a new crackdown on those funding the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests, placing them on the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) watchlist.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Comptroller-General of NIS, Kemi Nandap, revealed that individuals sponsoring the protests from abroad will be arrested upon their return to Nigeria. This announcement followed a meeting led by Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

“We have diaspora sponsors on our watchlist. Any attempt they make to enter the country will trigger an alert, and they will be apprehended and handed over to the appropriate authorities,” Nandap stated.

To enhance surveillance, the NIS has deployed additional officers at borders and airports to prevent foreign intervention. Additionally, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, confirmed that some sponsors have been identified, though further details were not disclosed.

It was also revealed that some bank accounts linked to these sponsors have been frozen, with ongoing monitoring of their activities from abroad.

This development follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive to intensify measures against the protests, which continue to call for policy reversals in response to Nigeria’s worsening economic crisis.
