JAMB 2024: Essential Updates for Candidates

By Milcah Tanimu

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released significant updates for all 2024 candidates. This article covers the critical points from the latest JAMB news.

Minimum Age Requirement for 2024/2025
For the upcoming academic session, only candidates who are at least sixteen years old will be eligible for admission. Candidates who are currently 15 years old may write Post UTME exams or screenings but will only be able to accept admission if they turn 16 by the time the institution admits them. This policy, directed by the Honourable Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN, OON, aims to prevent false affidavits and age adjustments.

End of Illegal Admissions
JAMB has announced a stop to the condonement of illegal admissions. Institutions must disclose all candidates admitted illegally before 2017 within the next month. Admissions not reported within this period will not be recognized or condoned.

Unauthorised Programmes
JAMB has condemned certain polytechnics and universities for advertising unauthorised Daily Part-Time (DPT) and Top Up (TU) programmes. These programmes are not approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) or the National Universities Commission (NUC). Candidates are advised to avoid such programmes as they will not be recognized or regularized.

Disclosure of Admissions Outside CAPS
Institutions must disclose all candidates admitted outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) from 2017 to date. Admissions outside CAPS not disclosed within the given timeframe will not be tolerated. CAPS remains the only authorized platform for admissions, ensuring transparency and fairness.

Key Takeaways
The JAMB 2024 updates emphasize strict age requirements, the cessation of illegal admissions, and the necessity of using CAPS for all admissions. Candidates should ensure they meet the age requirement and verify that their admissions are processed through CAPS. They should also avoid enrolling in unauthorized programmes not recognized by the appropriate educational bodies.

Candidates are encouraged to stay informed and comply with all outlined directives from the latest JAMB news bulletin.
