Ilorin Faces Renewed Fuel Shortages as Petrol Queues Reappear

By  Milcah  Tanimu

Fuel shortages are causing major disruptions in Ilorin, Kwara State, as long lines return to petrol stations amid a worsening nationwide scarcity.

Motorists and commercial motorcycle riders in Ilorin have been left stranded due to the resurgence of petrol queues. The ongoing fuel crisis has seen prices surge dramatically, with costs rising from ₦640, ₦645, ₦670, and ₦680 per litre to nearly ₦1,000 in various regions.

Recent reports indicate that major and independent fuel stations in Ilorin are now charging between ₦900 and ₦1,000 per litre. Many stations have been reported as closed or out of stock, further exacerbating the issue.

Tajudeen Balogun, a manager at a local fuel station in Ilorin, spoke to Daily Post about the dire situation. “There is no petrol being imported or loaded in Lagos, as NNPC is now the only importer,” Balogun said. He added that the crisis is likely to continue until local refineries resume operations and can meet the country’s fuel needs.

A senior representative from TotalEnergies also commented on the situation but could not offer a clear solution. “We are currently unable to load fuel in Lagos due to its unavailability. This situation seems to be beyond our control,” the official noted, expressing hope for a resolution but acknowledging the uncertainty of the current crisis.
