Governor Uba Sani Launches Kaduna State Skills Development Council

By  Milcah   Tanimu

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has inaugurated the State Skills Development Council with the aim of empowering the youth and addressing skills deficits in the state.

In a ceremony held on Monday in Kaduna, Sani described the council as the top authority for skills development in the state. “This council will provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the development and implementation of skills acquisition strategies,” he stated. The initiative marks a significant step in equipping youths with the necessary skills to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving job market.

Sani emphasized his administration’s commitment to investing in human capital to ensure that Kaduna’s youth are well-prepared to meet contemporary challenges and contribute effectively to the economy. “We are determined to address the skills deficits among our people,” he said. “Our goal is to prepare our citizens to fill key positions in the industries and businesses we are bringing to the state.”

The governor highlighted the progress of several major projects aimed at enhancing skills development. The construction of Vocational and Technology Skills Acquisition Cities in Rigachikun, Samaru Kataf, and Soba is nearing completion. These centers are designed to generate employment and spur economic growth by offering training in a range of vocational and technical fields.

“The centers will provide training in various skills including Welding and Fabrication, Articulated Vehicle Driving, Automotive Gas Conversion, Automotive Mechatronics, Solar Power Installation, Electrical Installation, and more,” Sani explained. Additionally, the remodeled Panteka Market in Tudun Wada will serve as a hub for skills acquisition and job creation, focusing on trades such as carpentry, welding, and plumbing.

Governor Sani also noted that the Kaduna State Government is partnering with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to offer National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) certification. This globally recognized certification will enhance employment opportunities for youths both locally and internationally. The centers will also offer other certifications from leading organizations like Microsoft, Google, CISCO, and Huawei.

The newly inaugurated council, chosen for their expertise and dedication, will be responsible for developing a skills development framework, creating strategic implementation plans, and overseeing the execution of these plans to tackle youth unemployment.

Sani expressed confidence in the council’s ability to execute its mandate with commitment and effectiveness, thus contributing to Kaduna State’s economic and social development.
