Top 10 African Countries with Largest Active Military Manpower in 2024

According to the Global Fire Power Index 2024, which evaluates military strength based on over 60 factors, including unit quantities and financial capabilities, Nigeria ranks third among African countries with the largest active military manpower.

Here’s the ranking of the top African nations by active military personnel:

1. Egypt – 440,000
2. Algeria – 325,000
3. Nigeria – 230,000
4. Morocco – 195,800
5. South Sudan – 185,000
6. DR Congo – 166,580
7. Ethiopia – 162,000
8. Eritrea – 120,000
9. Angola – 107,000
10. Sudan – 92,000

Egypt leads the list with the largest military force, followed by Algeria and Nigeria. South Sudan and DR Congo round out the top five. This ranking underscores the significant military capabilities across the continent, with varying levels of personnel strength and technological advancement.
