Teachers’ Recruitment: OYOSUBEB Set to Interview 545 Candidates with Disabilities

Oyo, Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa – September 10

Ibadan Main, Less Cities – September 11

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) has announced that it will interview 545 candidates with various forms of disability on September 10 and 11, 2024. The interviews will take place at the Board’s headquarters.

This announcement was made today by Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, Chairman of OYOSUBEB, during a visit from the Oyo State Agency for People With Disabilities, led by Director-General Barr. Ayodele Adekanmbi. The visit aimed to finalize arrangements for the upcoming interview process.

The Board has scheduled interviews for candidates from Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa, Ogbomoso, and Oyo for September 10, 2024. Interviews for candidates from Ibadan and its surrounding areas will be held on September 11, 2024. Caregivers will be interviewed separately on September 12 and 13, 2024.

Dr. Adeniran emphasized the Board’s commitment to implementing a reasonable employment quota for individuals with disabilities. He acknowledged that while recruitment criteria include merit, gender, and local government representation, the welfare of people with disabilities remains a priority for the current administration.

“The Board is dedicated to prioritizing persons with disabilities and will continue to do so,” Dr. Adeniran stated. “We have 22 special basic schools across the three senatorial districts in Oyo State to accommodate their educational needs.”

Dr. Adeniran also praised the administration led by Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde for its commitment to improving the lives of people with disabilities without discrimination or rejection.

Barr. Adekanmbi commended the Board for its inclusive approach, which aims to strengthen the state workforce. He highlighted that arrangements have been made to provide braille question papers and necessary tools for the visually impaired, as well as support for the deaf and physically challenged.

The agency’s inclusion in the recruitment process has fostered greater participation and raised awareness about disability rights and issues. Barr. Adekanmbi also praised the state government for its achievements in inclusion, such as the passage of the State Disability Law, which established the Agency for People With Disabilities.

The interview panel will be led by Prof. Akolade from the University of Ibadan, with Mr. Temitope Aluko and Evang. Olukayode, supported by four sign language interpreters and wheelchair assistants. To streamline the process, candidates will be grouped into three categories: blind, deaf, and physically disabled.

Also present at the meeting were Mrs. Olaide Ladipo, Executive Secretary of the Board, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Disabilities, alongside other top management members of the Board.
