Borno Flood: Tinubu Orders Evacuation of Affected Communities, Pledges Federal Support

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate evacuation of residents from communities impacted by severe flooding in Borno State. Expressing deep concern over the situation, particularly in Maiduguri, the state’s capital, Tinubu instructed government agencies to accelerate rescue efforts.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu emphasized the urgency of evacuating those affected by the floods. The statement, titled *”President Tinubu Expresses Concern Over Maiduguri Flood, Pledges Federal Support,”* highlighted the President’s commitment to addressing the crisis.

Borno State is currently experiencing its worst flooding in decades, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes. The flooding has also impacted key infrastructure, including a post office, the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, a cemetery, and a zoo where wild animals sought safety.

President Tinubu offered his condolences to the people of Borno, particularly to those who lost their homes and livelihoods due to the flooding caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam. He assured Governor Babagana Zulum that the Federal Government would collaborate closely to address the immediate humanitarian needs of the displaced residents.

The President has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide necessary assistance to the flood victims. Onanuga further emphasized that Tinubu is committed to mobilizing federal resources to support the state during this challenging time.
