We ‘ll Not Join IPPIS, ASUU Insists

Williams Anuku Abuja

The Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) has insisted that it would not join the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System under the federal government.

The academic union however said it had communicated its stance to the Federal Government but was yet to get a feedback from them.

The ASUU National Vice-President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, stated these in Abuja on Wednesday, at a programme to honour past Heroes of the Union, tagged ‘Heroes Day’.

It will be recalled that ASUU leadership met with the National Assembly led by the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, on October 28 to tender its stance to the Federal Government on the IPPIS.

The ASUU Vice-President, when asked what the union would do if their salaries were stopped for non-compliance with IPPIS, noted that the university lecturers “will know what to do when they get to that stage.”

Osodeke said, “On the IPPIS, we have made our position known to the government and they have said that they will get back to us. So, we are expecting their reaction. Our position is that ASUU will not join IPPIS the way it is. We have maintained that there is nowhere in the world where the salaries and wages of universities are paid from the central.

“Each university has a governing council and it is that council which employed all the workers – not the civil service commission and therefore, the council must determine the mode of payment of those workers – not the Office of the Accountant-General
