The Awe Local Government Concerned Group has denied reports circulating on social media that Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has endorsed Hon. Sani Musa as his preferred candidate for the upcoming local government elections.
In a press statement signed by Mahmud Awe on behalf of the group and released on Monday, September 16, 2024, the group called the information “misleading” and intended to create confusion. They clarified that Hon. Musa’s recent visit to the Governor, alongside the Emir of Azara, had no political connection, disputing claims that the Governor had endorsed him for the polls.
“We categorically state that this information is misleading. Hon. Sani Musa recently paid a courtesy visit to the Governor at Government House, accompanied by the Emir of Azara. However, credible sources confirm that the visit had no connection to the upcoming elections,” the statement read.
The group further explained that Musa’s visit was related to his previous marriage to the Governor’s daughter, Hussaina, and his desire for political recognition, not an endorsement for the local government election.
“It is important to clarify that Mr. Musa’s audience with Governor Sule was based on his previous marriage to the Governor’s daughter, Hussaina, and his desire for political recognition, not an endorsement,” they stressed.
In their statement, the Awe Concerned Group urged Governor Sule to reconsider any endorsement, should one exist, stating that several credible individuals from Awe Local Government had worked diligently for the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Governor’s re-election campaign.
“We have full confidence in the transparent leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule,” they added. “We trust he is committed to either a consensus or a primary election to produce a candidate who embodies the values and aspirations of the people.”
The group expressed faith in Governor Sule’s leadership, known for promoting transparency and fairness, and believes the chosen candidate will reflect the will of the people, ensuring continued development in the area.
“We believe he will prioritize the people’s choice, ensuring that leadership in Awe Local Government aligns with his goals of development and progress as he works toward completing his tenure in 2027,” the statement concluded.
The group called for calm and urged the public to allow the democratic process to run its course, ensuring that a credible candidate emerges for the upcoming local government elections.
