Nigerian Army Eliminates Terrorists, Rescues Hostages

By  Milcah   Tanimu

The Nigerian Army recently reported significant success in its fight against terrorism. Specifically, troops have eliminated eight terrorists and rescued 40 hostages during a series of coordinated operations across the country.

In a post on its official X handle, the Army stated that these victories have further tightened the noose around unrepentant terrorists. Moreover, troops apprehended an arms courier who was found with a large cache of ammunition, marking a substantial blow against arms proliferation among criminal elements.

Acting on reliable intelligence, troops conducted a strategic stop-and-search operation along the Lafia-Keffi Road in Nasarawa State on September 28. Consequently, this operation led to the arrest of a firearms courier. Troops recovered 303 live rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition concealed in a bag. The suspect and his vehicle were taken into custody, and ongoing investigations aim to apprehend his accomplices.

In another operation in Kaduna State, troops executed precision strikes in forests near Danmari and Saulawa villages in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. As a result, they eliminated one terrorist. Furthermore, additional engagements in Ankwa village of Kachia Local Government Area resulted in the deaths of two more terrorists. Troops also recovered a locally made firearm, 11 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the terrorists.

Additionally, the Army’s operations included intercepting fleeing terrorists in Faayijiwa Fandanari village in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno. Troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, 61 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO), and various supplies. The terrorists abandoned their firearms due to the superior firepower of the troops.

Further operations in Gwoza Local Government Area resulted in the neutralization of three terrorists near Ashigashiya village. In another instance, troops intercepted a convoy suspected of transporting logistics to terrorist camps at Gubio. They seized three vehicles loaded with food supplies and recovered N2,400 in cash.

Moreover, in Kukawa Local Government Area, troops intercepted terrorists attempting to relocate abducted victims from Cijin village. Upon seeing the troops, the terrorists fled, abandoning 38 hostages, including six men, eight women, and 24 children, who were safely rescued.

In Yobe, troops responded to reports of extortion by terrorists and staged a successful ambush in Sasawa village in Damaturu Local Government Area. They neutralized one terrorist and recovered an AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle.

Finally, the Chief of Army Staff commended the troops for their bravery and relentless pursuit of peace. He also expressed gratitude to citizens for their continuous provision of credible information. Overall, the Nigerian Army remains committed to obliterating terrorism and safeguarding the lives of all Nigerians.
