Former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufai has publicly declared his innocence regarding allegations of embezzlement, stating he would swear on the Holy Qur’an to affirm he did not steal while in office. Speaking on Freedom Radio Kaduna, El-Rufai challenged former governors and current leaders to take a similar oath.

El-Rufai emphasized that his political journey was driven by a desire to serve the people rather than personal gain. “I was financially stable before becoming governor and did not enter politics to enrich myself,” he explained. He expressed readiness to join his predecessors in swearing that they have never misappropriated public funds, highlighting a commitment to integrity.

“My administration has faced accusations without clear evidence linking us to any missing funds,” he stated, alleging that current leaders are using the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to target his allies in a smear campaign.

While maintaining his focus on personal and political service, El-Rufai mentioned he plans to return to politics in 2027 after completing his studies. “There’s no retirement in politics; I will continue to serve the people,” he said, expressing confidence in his clean record.

“I leave everything to Allah’s judgment, seeking guidance in all my actions,” El-Rufai concluded, emphasizing his integrity and commitment to serving Kaduna State without the desire for personal enrichment.
