Kano Shuts Four Health Facilities for Alleged Illegal Operations

The Kano State Private Health Institution Management Agency (PHIMA) has shut down four patent medicine facilities in Rogo Local Government Area for operating illegally and failing to comply with the agency’s regulations.

Leading a team of inspectors on Friday, PHIMA’s Director General, Prof. Salisu Tofa, represented by Director Abdussalam Zarewa, said the closure is part of efforts to sanitize Kano’s health sector. He explained that the affected facilities were found to be operating without proper registration and approval, violating the agency’s laws.

The facilities were discovered performing unauthorized medical procedures, including blood transfusions, blood tests, and administering drips, all without proper laboratory setups.

“These facilities were operating illegally, which is against the agency’s laws. We closed them to set an example for others,” Prof. Tofa said. He added that the actions of these facilities also violated the provisions of the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria.

The proprietors were directed to register with PHIMA and pay a N50,000 compliance fee to officially seal their facilities.

The closed facilities include:
– Sayane Nagari, Damagari, Zoza Ward
– Muktar Danjume, Taimakon Alumma, Kwanar Jajaye Ward
– Jonathan Magaji, Rahab Philip Chemist, Barbaji Jajaye Ward
– Blessing Yanoko Chemist, Yanoko Fulatan Ward

In addition, Maigayya Clinic and Maternity in Yanoko Fulatan Ward has been ordered to appear before the agency or face a complete closure.

In response, the proprietors of the affected facilities acknowledged their violations and pledged to comply with the necessary registration procedures.
