Senate Approves Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia

By    Milcah   Tanimu

The Nigerian Senate has officially approved a bill to establish the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna. This decision followed the adoption of a report presented by the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND during the plenary session on Tuesday.

Mohammed Muntari, the committee chair from Katsina, emphasized that stakeholders supported the university’s establishment during a public hearing. He highlighted that the new institution aims to equip students with practical and theoretical knowledge in technology, applied sciences, commerce, and management. This initiative seeks to tackle environmental challenges and improve productivity in Nigeria.

Muntari stated, “The hallmark of the proposed Federal University of Applied Sciences is to produce graduates well equipped with practical and theoretical grounded knowledge in technology.” He believes that this educational advancement will mitigate issues related to productivity and security, potentially reducing criminal activities in the country.

Additionally, the Senate passed a bill to establish the Federal University of Technology in Ilaro, Ogun State. Both initiatives are seen as crucial steps towards enhancing Nigeria’s educational landscape and fostering economic growth.
