5 Health Issues Linked to Crying Excessively

By   Milcah    Tanimu

While crying is often viewed as a healthy emotional release, excessive crying can actually lead to physical discomfort and health issues. Here are five common health problems linked to prolonged or frequent crying:

1. Tension Headache
Excessive crying can cause tension headaches as muscles in the face, neck, and head tense up. Symptoms may include pain around the forehead, neck, and face, with a tight, band-like sensation around the head.

2. Fatigue
After a long crying episode, people often feel drained. Crying slows down breathing and raises heart rate, reducing oxygen flow to the brain, which leaves you feeling tired and lightheaded.

3. Swollen Eyes
Crying causes blood vessels around the eyes to expand, leading to swollen, puffy, or bloodshot eyes. This is a common reaction from prolonged crying.

4. Migraines
Crying can stimulate the autonomic nervous system, potentially triggering migraines due to sympathetic nervous system dysregulation. Migraines may involve severe pain on one side of the head, face, or neck.

5. Sinus Headache
Tears mixed with mucus can create sinus pressure, resulting in a headache. Symptoms often include tenderness and pain around the forehead, cheeks, and eyes.

Although crying is essential for emotional relief, frequent or intense crying can have physical side effects.
