SGF Reaffirms Tinubu’s Commitment to Socio-Economic Growth

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to Nigeria’s socio-economic progress on Thursday. His remarks came during the distribution of start-up kits to 689 graduates of the National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) Youth Transformation Programme in Benue State.

Represented by Chief of Staff Simeon Tyungu, Akume highlighted various government initiatives, such as the N-HYPPADEC youth vocational training program. He described it as transformative, with a goal to benefit 5,000 participants across six states. This programme launched in Minna, Niger State, last Saturday, where 365 start-up kits were distributed to graduates, followed by another round in Jos, Plateau State, earlier this week.

“The administration is fully committed to supporting N-HYPPADEC’s work, which is crucial for national progress,” Akume said. “This aligns with our commitment to the socio-economic growth and holistic development of our beloved Nigeria.”

He urged N-HYPPADEC to continue its efforts in combating poverty and empowering youth, emphasizing the positive impact on Nigeria’s future.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by Deputy Governor Sam Ode, praised the federal initiative for providing opportunities that steer youth off the streets. He encouraged beneficiaries to make the most of the kits, noting that they mark a new beginning.

N-HYPPADEC Managing Director Abubakar Yelwa reported that the 689 youths were trained in 29 vocational fields, including Fashion Design, Fish Farming, and Poultry Farming. Yelwa also highlighted training in modern tech fields like Software Development, CCTV Installation, and Phone Repairs, preparing youth for the digital economy.

The program, Yelwa explained, aims to support communities impacted by recurrent flooding, which has left many youths vulnerable to poverty and crime. “This training equips them with skills that can transform their lives and strengthen their communities,” he added.
