Gov. Zulum Commissions High Islamic College and JSS in Damboa

Directs employment of 4 medical doctors

By Idibia Gabriel, Kaduna

On Sunday, Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum commissioned the Damboa Higher Islamic College, one of 47 schools built by his administration. He also inaugurated a junior secondary school in Garjang, Damboa Local Government Area, to address the growing number of children completing primary education in the region.

Zulum, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Abdurrahman Bundi, explained that the establishment of the High Islamic College is part of his administration’s commitment to integrating non-formal education into the formal system.

“These colleges are designed to integrate Tsangaya learners into a curriculum developed by the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), blending traditional Islamic studies with modern subjects like science, technology, mathematics, and foundational English skills,” he said.

As part of the back-to-school program, about 2,000 students received school uniforms, exercise books, textbooks, and bicycles to ease travel for those coming from remote villages.

The governor also approved a N50 million grant for the ongoing operations of the High Islamic College in Damboa.

Zulum visited the site of the new General Hospital in Damboa to assess the progress of construction. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and urged the contractor to complete the project on time without compromising standards.

Additionally, Governor Zulum approved six new projects in the local government areas of Chibok and Damboa. In Chibok, the projects include the establishment of an ICT center and a High Islamic College. In Damboa, the projects include the rehabilitation of Wovi Primary and Junior Secondary Schools, Government Girls Technical School, and Government Day Secondary School.
