Delta State Government Donates 31 Operational Vehicles to Police and Security Agencies

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has donated 31 operational vehicles to the Police and other security agencies to bolster their operations. The vehicles, presented in Asaba, are part of the state’s efforts to enhance the *Operation Delta Sweep* initiative aimed at improving security across the state.

During the donation ceremony, Governor Oborevwori, while addressing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, emphasized that the donation was in response to increasing insecurity across the country. He urged security agencies to collaborate and share intelligence to ensure effective security.

“As part of my MORE Agenda, I promised to enhance peace and security in Delta State,” Oborevwori stated. “This donation underscores our commitment to a safer environment, which will foster investment and improve the quality of life for our citizens.”

The *Operation Delta Sweep*, a joint security task force launched in December 2020, includes the Nigerian Army, Police, Air Force, Navy, DSS, and Civil Defense Corps. The initiative has seen success in tackling various crimes such as illegal oil bunkering, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism.

Governor Oborevwori also noted that the donation, which includes 23 pickups, eight Sienna wagons, and four Hilux vehicles, brings the total number of vehicles in the fleet to 66. These vehicles are expected to enhance daily patrols, particularly during the busy Ember Months.

In addition to this, Governor Oborevwori praised the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, specifically their *Safe School Program*, which aims to protect educational institutions from violence and terror. He commended the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, for his outstanding efforts and collaboration with military and paramilitary forces.

IGP Egbetokun also expressed his gratitude to Governor Oborevwori, highlighting the governor’s exceptional support for the state’s security agencies. “Your dedication to the safety of Delta State is commendable,” he said. “These new vehicles will be deployed immediately to enhance security operations under *Operation Delta Sweep*.”

Additionally, during the opening of the Police Public Relations Officers/Police Communication Experts Conference in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of countering misinformation and improving public engagement between the police and the community.

The IGP also acknowledged the media’s role in shaping public perception, calling it an important ally in the police’s advocacy and accountability efforts.

With the governor’s continued support and collaboration with security agencies, Delta State is poised to strengthen its efforts in ensuring the safety and security of its residents.
