Ministry Proposes ₦500 Billion Annual Housing Budget for 2025

By   Milcah   Tanimu

Ahmed Dangiwa, Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, has announced the ministry’s push for a minimum annual housing budget of ₦500 billion starting in 2025, with backing from the National Assembly.

Speaking at the State House in Abuja, Dangiwa emphasized the critical need to address the country’s significant housing deficit, estimated at 550,000 units per year.

“Our advocacy for a minimum annual housing budget of ₦500 billion starting in 2025 has gained the support of the National Assembly,” he said.

Housing as a Catalyst for Economic Growth

Dangiwa highlighted that the Renewed Hope Agenda focuses on more than just housing construction, aiming to create jobs and economic opportunities.

“We are building hope, jobs, and economic opportunities. Our commitment is to ensure every Nigerian, regardless of income, can aspire to own a decent home and thrive in an urban environment,” Dangiwa said.

Achievements and Job Creation

Under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, the housing ministry has launched initiatives to ensure housing accessibility. Dangiwa revealed that over 252,800 jobs have been created through housing projects, with an average of 25 jobs generated per housing unit.

“From architects to carpenters, the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme is revitalizing communities and providing meaningful employment,” he stated.

He noted that workers earn an average daily wage of ₦5,000, offering many salaries higher than the national minimum wage, which contributes to economic stability and crime reduction.

Online Portal for Housing Accessibility

To simplify homeownership, the ministry launched an online housing delivery portal, allowing citizens to browse, apply, and secure housing units without intermediaries.

“With over 47,605 registered users and more than 1,000 applications completed, the platform revolutionizes housing accessibility,” Dangiwa added.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to delivering sustainable housing solutions, transforming lives, and fostering economic prosperity for Nigerians.
