Oborevwori Tackling Hunger, Poverty in Delta – Ahon

By Anne Azuka

The Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, has affirmed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration is tackling hunger and poverty through extensive investments in human capital development.

Ahon stated this in a reaction to criticism over the state government’s recent donation of operational vehicles to the police and other security agencies, which some had described as a misplaced priority.

Defending the government’s actions, Ahon noted, “Governor Oborevwori has empowered over 200,000 Deltans across various human capital development programs and has provided thousands of employment opportunities in teaching and other sectors of the civil service.”

He emphasized that the provision of operational vehicles to security agencies is part of the administration’s strategy to enhance security across the state.

“Even in developed countries, security challenges persist, and governments invest heavily to ensure safety. Similarly, the Delta State Government prioritizes security to safeguard lives and property,” Ahon added.

Highlighting the administration’s commitment to economic empowerment, he disclosed, “Just this Tuesday, 311 Deltans, including persons with disabilities, were empowered by the state government to become self-employed, self-reliant, and even employers of labor.”

Ahon reiterated that Governor Oborevwori’s administration remains focused on creating opportunities and ensuring a secure environment for sustainable development in the state.
