Joint Security Forces Dismantle Criminal Hideout in Imo State

By  Milcah  Tanimu

In a decisive move against criminal activities, a joint security operation dismantled a major hideout in Aku, Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. The operation, conducted by a coalition of security forces—including the Police, Army, DSS, Navy, and Nigeria Civil Defence—aims to restore peace and curb unrest in the region.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, confirmed the development in a statement issued on December 4, 2024. He attributed the success of the operation to actionable intelligence provided by local residents.

High-Level Assessment

To assess progress, key security leaders visited the area on December 3. The delegation included:

  • CP Aboki Danjuma, Imo State Police Commissioner
  • Brig. Gen. U.A. Lawal, Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze
  • Commander Naval Base, Oguta
  • Director of DSS
  • Hon. Modestus Osakwe, Commissioner for Homeland Security
  • Brig. Gen. Joseph Ogbonna (Rtd.), SSA to the Governor on Security Affairs

The leaders commended the joint forces for their dedication and assured local residents of improved safety.

Major Breakthrough

ASP Okoye described the operation as a “major breakthrough,” revealing that it led to the dismantling of a significant criminal base and the arrest of key suspects responsible for terrorizing the area. The hideout had reportedly been a launchpad for violent attacks on civilians and security personnel.

Brig. Gen. Ogbonna (Rtd.) urged displaced residents to return to their communities and cooperate with authorities, while CP Danjuma and Brig. Gen. Lawal highlighted the importance of public support in sustaining the gains made.

Commitment to Peace

The joint security effort underscores the seriousness with which authorities are tackling security challenges in Imo State. “The presence of top security commanders in Aku reflects the government’s commitment to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of all residents,” ASP Okoye said.
