The Arewa Youths Initiative for Energy Reforms (AYIFER) has urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to prioritize the timely and high-quality completion of the Kaduna refinery.
In a statement signed by National Coordinator Alhaji Bashir Al’Amin and General Secretary Engr. Gideon Yakubu, the group stressed the need for a world-class refinery comparable to the Dangote refinery, rather than adopting the criticized Port Harcourt model.
The group voiced concerns about the Port Harcourt refinery, noting negative feedback from host communities and stakeholders. They emphasized the Kaduna refinery’s importance for northern Nigeria’s economic revival and industrial legacy, citing the decline of industries like textiles and the Groundnut Pyramid in the region.
“Delivering a substandard facility in Kaduna would be unacceptable,” the statement read. “The north’s industrial future hinges on this project’s success.”
AYIFER expressed confidence in NNPCL’s GCEO, Mallam Mele Kyari, urging him to ensure a functional, modern petrochemical facility. They pledged their support and prayers, believing the refinery could bring hope and employment to northern youth.
“We are solidly behind Kyari and will celebrate him when our expectations are met, Insha Allah,” the group added.
This call aligns with ongoing demands for robust energy infrastructure to boost Nigeria’s economic growth and regional development.
