The Conference of United Opposition Political Parties in Nigeria (CUOPPIN), has written to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) seeking permission to stage a protest against the management of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) over allegations of corruption.
The letter which was dated December 15, 2024 and signed by OUOPPIN Director General, Comrade Dalapo Tunde Ibrahim also seeked to present 10 individual petitions, backed up with affidavits deposed by concerned Nigerians, detailing the corrupt allegations against NYSC management.
CUOPPIN through the letter maintained that, “as gatekeepers of democracy and a vibrant opposition machine, we have the confidence of Nigerians. The complaints we have received so far have prompted us to act for the sake of our vulnerable graduates and indeed all Nigerians for which the Scheme was established to serve.
“The level of unbridled corruption and fraud currently ongoing in NYSC especially at the national headquarters under the current leadership is worrisome. Our organization has received over 10 consolidated petitions supported with affidavits against the management of NYSC.
“More painful is the fact that despite budgetary allocations, it has become almost impossible to pay Corps members their ₦76,000 naira allowances as promised by the federal government till date. This in addition to sorry state of feeding and general camp management during orientation programs.”
While challenging the Director General and management of NYSC to live debate on any media platform of their choice, CUOPPIN extended an invitation to media houses and the general public to attend its upcoming press conference which will culminate into a grand protest against NYSC management.
“For too long, the Director General and management of NYSC have taken Nigerians for granted. Armed with credible evidence, we dare the management team of NYSC to a live debate. We’ll not just expose their fraudulent enterprises but we’ll also hold them accountable for their failure to provide basic security and needs of Corps members.
“To this end, we are inviting the press and indeed the general public to turn up en masse to attend our press conference scheduled to take place on the 31st of December 2024 at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters, Abuja by 10am. This will be followed by a grand protest to occupy the NYSC national headquarters until our demands are met”, the letter concluded.
