Former Deputy Governor Silas Agara Urges Nigerians to Embrace Love and Dedication During Christmas

Warns Against Excessive Spending or Borrowing

By Abel Zwànke, Lafia

Former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State and current Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), His Excellency Silas Ali Agara, has called on Nigerians to use the Christmas season as an opportunity for love, reflection, and renewed dedication to national service.

Speaking on Wednesday after the Christmas service at ECWA Good News Church in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, Agara urged citizens to reflect on their actions and commit to positive changes.

“Today, we join Christians worldwide to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It’s a season of love and rededicating ourselves to the service of our nation. We must reflect on what we have done that is not right and commit to doing better,” he said.

Agara emphasized the importance of showing compassion, particularly toward vulnerable groups such as internally displaced persons and the less privileged. “This is a season to remember loved ones and to extend support to those who are weak or displaced. We must reach out and show love,” he added.

He also commended the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for their sacrifices in ensuring peace and security nationwide. “We should appreciate our military personnel and other security agencies who work tirelessly to protect us. Above all, we must pray for the well-being of Nigerians and for wisdom and good health for our leaders, including the president, vice president, and cabinet members,” Agara said.

Acknowledging the peaceful environment fostered by the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, and his cabinet, Agara expressed gratitude for their efforts in ensuring residents could celebrate Christmas safely.

“Without the peace and security provided by these leaders, we would not be celebrating in comfort. We must continue to pray for leadership at all levels so that God grants them good health and wisdom to guide this great nation,” he noted.

Agara cautioned Nigerians against excessive spending or resorting to borrowing for Christmas celebrations. “Christmas is not a time to live beyond our means. It is a period to appreciate what we have and celebrate responsibly. Let us avoid unnecessary financial burdens that could carry into the new year,” he advised.

Despite acknowledging the economic challenges faced by many, Agara expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future. He stated that ongoing government policies would eventually yield positive results. “The economy is growing, and we must appreciate where we are. The policies initiated by this government will, in time, bring dividends for all Nigerians,” he concluded.
