Sunday Igboho: Ethnic Groups Should Separate If Nigeria Fails to Work

By Abigail Philip David

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has called for ethnic nationalities in Nigeria to separate if the country continues to face challenges that hinder its unity and progress.

In a video circulating online on Thursday, Igboho, seen at a UK airport, attributed the lack of patriotism among Nigerians to issues such as corruption, insecurity, and a failing economy. He emphasized that these problems make it difficult for citizens to take pride in their national identity.

“If Nigeria is not working as a country, it is better we go our separate ways,” Igboho said.

He argued that the Yoruba people, particularly the youth, possess the knowledge and experience to transform the Yoruba Nation into a prosperous and modern society, drawing from insights gained abroad.

“Our youths will transform Yoruba land. Many have traveled the world and learned a lot. When they return to Yoruba land, their knowledge will help build and modernize the nation, just like countries in Europe,” he added.

Igboho also criticized the lack of security at Nigerian airports, citing theft and poor infrastructure as examples of systemic issues that discourage national pride.

“These are some of the reasons people are no longer proud to identify as Nigerians,” he said.

The separatist reiterated his call for ethnic groups, including the Yoruba, Igbo, and others, to part ways if the Nigerian system cannot function effectively as a unified nation.
