The Kano State Government, led by Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has donated ₦10 million to honor the state’s fallen heroes. This donation was made during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Fund Launch, held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, on Monday.

According to a statement by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Kano Government House, Usman Gwadabe, Governor Yusuf personally contributed ₦2 million to the fund. Additionally, the state’s 44 local government councils collectively donated ₦10 million.

Represented by the Director-General of Special Services, AVM Ibrahim Umaru (rtd), the governor commended the sacrifices of fallen heroes and those engaged in ongoing internal security operations, particularly in the fight against insurgency, terrorism, and armed banditry.

He reassured residents of the state government’s commitment to prioritizing the security of lives and property while maintaining Kano’s status as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states. Governor Yusuf also encouraged stakeholders to support the Legion’s initiatives in transportation, agriculture, and housing development to improve veterans’ living conditions.

The governor urged the people of Kano and Nigerians at large to purchase and wear the emblems with pride to honor those who laid down their lives for national peace.

Meanwhile, AVM Umaru (rtd) personally donated ₦300,000 to the fund. He appealed to both the government and well-off individuals to empower veterans through schemes and rehabilitation projects, including the renovation of the State Legion’s Secretariat.

The state Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Army Warrant Officer Kabiru Isyaku, expressed gratitude for the donations and pledged their judicious use.

During the event, additional contributions were made: ₦500,000 each from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy; ₦250,000 from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services; and ₦100,000 each from the NSCDC, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Brig. Gen. Gambo Ahmad Mai Adu’a (rtd), Commandant of the State Taskforce on Phone Snatching and Drug Abuse.
