Man Stabs In-Law to Death with Broken Bottle Over Children’s Dispute

A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday, January 16, 2025, when a minor dispute between children escalated into a fatal altercation, resulting in the death of Uchenna Unakalamba, 42, at the hands of his brother-in-law, Uchenna Okpara, 40.

The argument, which began as a dispute between the children of Okpara and Unakalamba, quickly turned violent. Reports indicate that Okpara used a broken bottle to stab Unakalamba in the neck, leading to fatal injuries. The altercation took place in Imo State, Nigeria.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Imo State, Henry Okoye, law enforcement officials were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the incident. Upon arrival, police apprehended Okpara, recovering the weapon used in the attack as evidence.

Medical Response and Victim’s Death

Despite efforts to save him, Unakalamba succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His body was later transported to the morgue for further examination.

Police Investigation and Arrest

The Imo State Police Command confirmed that Okpara was arrested by the anti-kidnapping unit on the same day, January 16, 2025, for the alleged homicide. Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

According to the PPRO, the suspect is currently in police custody, awaiting further questioning. The police assured the public that, should Okpara be found guilty, he will face legal consequences for the murder of his in-law.

Legal Consequences and Ongoing Investigation

The case is currently under investigation, with authorities emphasizing their commitment to ensuring justice is served. Okpara will face appropriate charges based on the outcome of the investigation.

Imo State Police Command has stated that they are diligently handling the case, and Okpara will be held accountable if the investigation confirms his involvement in the fatal stabbing.

This incident highlights the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and the severe consequences of escalating minor disputes into acts of violence.
