Governor Yusuf Empowers Kano Women with N2.3 Billion Livestock Initiative

In a determined effort to alleviate poverty and foster economic independence, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has inaugurated the second phase of the Livestock Fattening Programme under the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP). This initiative targets women across the state’s 44 Local Government Areas.

According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the program involves distributing livestock to empower women economically. Each beneficiary receives three small ruminants (goats) to support their journey into livestock entrepreneurship.

During the flag-off ceremony, Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to combating poverty through innovative and inclusive programs. He announced that in this phase, a total of 7,158 goats have been distributed to 2,386 women beneficiaries. Future phases will see the distribution of 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to women and youth.

The governor highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at empowering vulnerable groups and fostering economic independence among women and youth.

“This program is not just about distributing livestock; it is about creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and reducing dependency on government aid,” Governor Yusuf stated.

He also issued a stern warning to beneficiaries against misusing the livestock for purposes other than those intended, emphasizing accountability and responsibility.

With a budget of N2.3 billion, the initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to grassroots economic growth, food security, and sustainable development.

By integrating women and youth into the agricultural value chain, the program aims to enhance household income, improve livelihoods, and create wealth in rural communities.

The initiative has garnered widespread praise as a significant step toward empowering women, strengthening food security, and fostering economic resilience across Kano State.
