A group of youths in Bassa Local Government Council (LGC), Plateau State, has commended Dr. Joshua Sunday Riti, the Executive Chairman of Bassa LGC, for his outstanding performance in the first 100 days of his administration.

The youths, operating under the aegis of “Bassa for Positive Growth,” expressed their appreciation in a statement signed by Ajik Lazarus. The group highlighted Dr. Riti’s significant achievements and milestones within his initial 100 days in office.

According to the group, “His leadership has brought remarkable progress across various sectors, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the development of Bassa LGC and the well-being of its residents.”

The statement further noted that upon assuming office, Dr. Riti embarked on an extensive “Thank You” tour across all 20 wards in the local government. This initiative was designed to express gratitude to the people for their support and conduct a needs assessment to identify the most pressing issues in each ward. “This tour fostered community engagement and strengthened the bond between the local government and the good people of Bassa,” the group added.

The youths also commended the Chairman for his proactive approach in tackling insecurity within the LGC. “Addressing insecurity in Bassa has been a top priority for Dr. Riti. Upon assuming office, he visited the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3rd Armored Division/Commander of Operation Safe Haven in Jos to collaborate with security agencies to curb security challenges in Bassa, ensuring a safer environment for residents,” the statement read.

Dr. Riti’s efforts to discover and nurture local talent were also praised. The group highlighted his role in launching the Governor’s Cup at Kent Academy, Miango, Bassa LGC. The initiative was aimed at discovering the hidden talents and potentials within the local government.

In addition, the group lauded Dr. Riti’s achievements in improving water supply and sanitation. “He has renovated over 60 boreholes across the local government, significantly enhancing water access for numerous communities.”

The youth group also commended the completion of the rural electrification project in Kihang Village, which has greatly improved the quality of life for residents and fostered economic activities.

Dr. Riti’s plans to construct roads in rural areas were highlighted as another significant step towards improving infrastructure. The issue of poor rural roads has been captured in this year’s budget to ensure better connectivity within the local government.

The statement continued, praising the council chairman for his partnership with the World Bank through the office of the Special Assistant to the Executive Governor on Plateau Commodity Market (PLACOM). This partnership has facilitated the smooth marketing of farmers’ perishable goods by purchasing and storing surplus products to prevent losses during periods of glut.

Recognizing the importance of youth empowerment, Dr. Riti also facilitated the employment of over 20 watchmen to protect school materials, children, and teachers in primary schools within the LGC. Additionally, the group commended the chairman for his efforts in providing skills acquisition programs, including sewing and hairdressing, to promote self-reliance and entrepreneurship among the youth.

The group also acknowledged Dr. Riti’s work in improving primary health care services. “He has assessed primary health care centers, identified ongoing projects, and addressed shortages in manpower and supplies. These issues have been captured in this year’s budget for resolution.”

Furthermore, the group praised Dr. Riti for ensuring the timely payment of salaries and allowances for civil servants, along with a salary increase. The youths called on the people of Bassa LGC to continue supporting Dr. Riti in his efforts to move the local government forward.
