The newly appointed Chairman of the Board of the National Steel Council (NSC), Professor Abdulkarim Kana, SAN, has reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning Nigeria’s steel industry following a meeting with the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu.

The meeting, held yesterday at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for the immediate assumption of duties by newly appointed board chairmen.

During the discussions, Prof. Kana commended the Minister for his unwavering support and assured him of his readiness to drive policies aimed at revitalizing the steel sector.

“I deeply appreciate the Minister’s commitment to strengthening the National Steel Council and the entire steel sector. His leadership has been instrumental in laying a strong foundation for a sustainable and competitive industry. As I assume office, I am dedicated to ensuring that the Council plays its role effectively in advancing the sector,” Prof. Kana stated.

In response, the Honorable Minister welcomed Prof. Kana’s visit, describing it as a crucial step toward consolidating efforts to revive Nigeria’s steel industry. He emphasized the strategic importance of the NSC in achieving the federal government’s industrialization agenda.

“This visit underscores our shared vision for the sector. The steel industry remains a crucial driver of economic growth, and the National Steel Council plays a vital role in its development. I am confident that under Prof. Kana’s leadership, we will witness significant progress in unlocking the potential of the steel industry,” Prince Audu said.

Also present at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, and the Executive Secretary of the National Steel Council, Ambassador Abdulkadir Musafari.
