SWAN President Tasks Cooperative Committee on Investment Drive

From Abel Zwànke, Lafia

The National President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Comrade Isaiah Benjamin, has urged the newly inaugurated SWAN Cooperative Committee to revitalize the association by attracting investors to support sports writers across the country.

Speaking during the virtual inauguration yesterday, Comrade Benjamin emphasized the importance of financial empowerment for sports journalists, assuring the committee of the freedom to operate effectively.

“The task ahead is enormous, but I am confident in your ability to strengthen the economic standing of sports writers in Nigeria through cooperative initiatives. You have our full support,” he stated.

He explained that the selection of the committee members, chaired by Nasarawa State SWAN Chairman, Comrade Smah George, was based on their individual track records and contributions to the association.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Comrade Smah George expressed gratitude to the national executive for the opportunity to serve. He pledged to work tirelessly with relevant stakeholders to fulfill the committee’s mandate.

“We will explore all available platforms to drive investment into SWAN. I urge committee members to remain committed to this assignment as it is crucial to improving the welfare and financial stability of sports writers,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of SWAN partners, Barrister Abdulgafar Olamide of Sports Without Borders highlighted the potential benefits of strategic partnerships with financial institutions and private investors.

“With the right synergy, SWAN stands to gain immensely from various partnerships. I have confidence in this committee’s ability to secure meaningful investments, and I urge the national leadership to support them in achieving their targets,” he said.

The newly inaugurated committee members include Ijeoma Peter Nwante (South-East), Austin Ajayi (North-East), Clarkson Ogo (South-South), Bisi Ogunleye (South-West), Hassan Abubakar (North-Central), and Jacob Enjewo (North-West), who will serve as secretary.
