The General Overseer of Kings Worship Chapel and Ministry Inc., Rev. Dr. Sam Magai Albert, has described the late Assistant General Overseer, Rev. David Ayuba Azzaman, as one of the finest, full of fire, faith, compassion, and humility.

In a statement released by the church on Monday evening, Rev. Dr. Albert paid tribute to Rev. Azzaman, who died in a car accident last Sunday, highlighting his unwavering courage, dedication, and passion for souls.

Clarifying the circumstances of his death, Rev. Albert said Rev. Azzaman was returning from a crusade in Makurdi on Saturday, May 24, 2025, when a vehicle from the opposite direction swerved to avoid a pothole and rammed into their car along the Idon axis of the Kachia-Kaduna Expressway. The impact forced their vehicle off the road and into a tree.

Rev. Azzaman, seated in the front passenger seat, sustained multiple leg fractures and critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at 2:56 p.m. at Idon Rural Hospital by Dr. Uzomah Charles.

“Even in excruciating pain, his pastoral spirit remained,” Rev. Albert said, noting that Azzaman showed concern for his team before softly singing the Hausa hymn ‘Watarana, watarana…’ — a declaration of readiness to meet his Maker.

“He reportedly whispered, ‘Let me rest… I just want to rest,’ before slipping into eternal sleep,” the statement added.

The General Overseer emphasized the church’s gratitude for the public’s outpouring of love and sympathy, while dismissing rumors surrounding the pastor’s death. He confirmed that the surviving passengers have been treated and discharged.

“I have lost more than a colleague,” Rev. Albert said. “I have lost a younger brother, a fearless preacher, and a relentless worker in the Lord’s vineyard. Rev. Azzaman was truly the best of the best.”

Quoting Psalm 116:15, he added: “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Burial arrangements will be announced shortly.
