NTI Chairman Laments Dilapidated State of Institute

By Israel Adamu, Jos

The Chairman of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, Barrister Festus Fuanter, has expressed deep concern over the current state of dilapidation at the once-iconic institution. He made the remarks on Tuesday during his inaugural visit and inspection of the institute’s facilities.

Speaking after the tour on Thursday, Barr. Fuanter described the condition of the infrastructure as shocking and disheartening.

During the inspection, he observed the severe disrepair of key facilities, including the Conference Centre, the Clinic, the Computer Centre, the Demonstration School, and the Teachers’ Radio Station, all of which are currently non-functional and in a state of abandonment.

As part of his mandate, the Chairman pledged to urge the Minister of Education to seek presidential intervention to salvage the institute. He emphasized the need for a major rehabilitation effort if the NTI is to fulfill its foundational mission.

“I will work closely with the Federal Ministry of Education and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the institute is restored to its former glory,” he said.

Also speaking, the Director of the Institute, Professor Sadiya Sani Daura, expressed gratitude to the Council for the visit, stating that it has lifted the morale of the staff. She reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to transformation and progress with the continued support of the Council.
