By Amgbare Ekaunkumo, Yenagoa

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Bayelsa State Command, has forged a strategic partnership with the National Association of Seadogs Pyrates Confraternity (NAS PC) to advance inmate rehabilitation and crime prevention efforts in the state.

Controller of Corrections, Imo Ikahokhuele, who assumed office on May 19, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the NAS PC’s Oxbow Marino Deck on Tuesday, where he was warmly received by the Deck’s Capoon, Engr. Adogbeji Egbonoje.

During the visit, Controller Ikahokhuele commended NAS PC for its consistent support of the Correctional Service. He noted that a review of official handover documents revealed several opportunities to strengthen collaboration on rehabilitative programs and crime prevention.

In his remarks, Engr. Egbonoje highlighted the mission and values of NAS PC, which center on promoting humanistic ideals and societal betterment. He announced the group’s intention to donate a classroom block to support literacy initiatives at the Correctional Centre.

Egbonoje also introduced the Legal Assistance and Citizens Rights Initiative (LACRI), a NAS PC-driven program providing free legal services to inmates as part of broader efforts to ensure access to justice.

Both parties expressed confidence in the positive impact of the alliance. Controller Ikahokhuele emphasized the importance of education and legal support in curbing recidivism and pledged the NCoS’s full cooperation in implementing joint initiatives.

“Our goal is to create a rehabilitative environment that equips inmates with the tools to reintegrate into society as responsible and productive citizens,” he said.

The visit concluded with the signing of the Visitors’ Register and a group photograph, marking the beginning of what both parties hope will be a long-lasting and impactful collaboration.
