The lawmaker representing Mikang Constituency, Hon. Daniel Nanlong, has emerged as the new Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.
Nanlong, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Majority Leader in the 9th Assembly, was unanimously elected by his colleagues during an emergency sitting held on Wednesday at the temporary Assembly Complex, located at the Old Government House, Jos.
His emergence followed the resignation of the former Speaker, Hon. Gabriel Dewan of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
Our correspondent reports that Dewan, the only lawmaker elected on the YPP platform, stepped down amid ongoing political tensions in the state.
The emergency session, convened to stabilize the Assembly’s leadership, was presided over by Deputy Speaker, Hon. Gwotta Ajang, who oversaw the transition process.
With Nanlong’s election, the 24-member House seeks to move past internal disagreements and refocus on legislative responsibilities.
