Sokoto PHC, UNICEF Hold Nutrition Strategy Validation Meeting

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA), through its Nutrition Unit and in collaboration with the UNICEF Field Office in Sokoto, recently held a two-day Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Validation Meeting in Kebbi State.

The meeting focused on reviewing and standardizing nutrition-related documentation to improve the quality and effectiveness of nutrition interventions across Sokoto State.

Speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Wurno—represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ibrahim Haliru Dingyadi—highlighted the importance of ensuring consistency and excellence in nutrition materials.

“The validation exercise is essential for enhancing the impact of our nutrition programs. Standardizing materials ensures Sokoto State remains a model of best practices in nutrition documentation,” he said.

In his welcome address, Dr. Tukur Garba Magaji, Director of Community Health, emphasized the relevance of the exercise in strengthening the reach and effectiveness of nutrition services, particularly in underserved communities.

Ibrahim Iya, in a statement on behalf of the agency, noted that the meeting brought together key stakeholders to refine strategies and align efforts with global best practices in nutrition and health promotion.

UNICEF’s Chief of Party, Mr. Michael Juma, represented by Ibrahim Haruna, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting Sokoto State’s nutrition initiatives.

Ayo Bami, representing Nutrition International, also delivered a goodwill message on behalf of development partners. He praised the collaboration between the state government and UNICEF, urging continued investment in child nutrition to ensure sustainable outcomes.
