Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has dissolved his cabinet, relieving all Commissioners and the Chief of Staff of their duties.
This development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, on Wednesday.
In the statement, Governor Alia announced the appointment of Barr. Moses Atagher, former Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, as the new Chief of Staff. Atagher, a seasoned administrator, previously served as the state’s Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General. His appointment takes immediate effect.
The dissolution was formally announced during the 12th State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held at the Government House, Makurdi.
Governor Alia expressed appreciation to the outgoing Commissioners for their service over the past two years. He encouraged those who may not be reappointed to remain committed to the party, noting that the reshuffle is meant to give others the opportunity to contribute to the state’s development.
The statement clarified that aside from the Chief of Staff, only the Commissioners were affected by the dissolution. The Governor has directed all former Commissioners to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries without delay.
