Sokoto Govt Approves N950m to Complete Power Project

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State Government has approved an additional ₦950 million for the completion of the long-delayed Independent Power Project (IPP), bringing total expenditure on the project to over ₦5.5 billion since its inception in 2008.

The IPP, designed to generate 38 megawatts of electricity, is now 80% complete and is expected to significantly improve the state’s power supply, which currently stands at just 10 megawatts.

Commissioner for Energy and Petroleum Resources, Hon. Sanusi Danfulani, who inspected the completed power restoration project in Durbawa community, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening energy infrastructure across the state.

Once operational, the IPP is expected to boost industrial development, support small and medium-scale enterprises, and create jobs. The commissioner noted that the project should be completed within a few months, pending the arrival of critical equipment from abroad.

Despite speculation, the state government emphasized that the project is being funded solely by the Sokoto State Government, with no partnership from the federal government. Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration is determined to deliver the long-awaited project and revitalize the energy sector.
