The Kaduna State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged political violence meeting reportedly linked to former governor Nasir El-Rufai and shooting incidents involving suspected political thugs.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, the incident occurred after a political gathering purportedly organized by the ADC Coalition without prior notification to security agencies, despite repeated warnings.
Preliminary findings suggested that the gathering degenerated into violence when thugs allegedly loyal to the former governor fired gunshots, causing panic and disrupting public order in the state.
The Police said inquiries at the ADC party secretariat showed that party officials denied knowledge of such a meeting. The ADC leadership reaffirmed their commitment to the rule of law and distanced themselves from the alleged organizers.
The Command stressed that the investigation is ongoing and warned that anyone found culpable, regardless of status or position, would face the full weight of the law.
It also cautioned hotels, event centres, and similar facilities against hosting political gatherings without notifying security agencies, warning that violators would be held responsible if such events were hijacked by miscreants.
The Command further announced the suspension of unauthorized political meetings until due process and proper security arrangements are put in place.
