Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the immediate construction of a hospital, water facilities, and other critical infrastructure for the people of Kirawa, a community recently attacked by violent extremists. The governor made the announcement on Friday during an assessment visit to Kirawa, where he commiserated with residents over the tragic incident and condemned the attack in strong terms.
According to his media aide, Abdurraman Bundi, Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety and welfare of the people. In addition to new infrastructure, the governor disclosed plans to strengthen security in the area. These include deploying additional security personnel and establishing a new Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) post to boost surveillance and rapid response capacity.Zulum visited Kirawa by road in company with the Commander of the 26 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General N. I. Abdullahi, lawmakers from the State and National Assembly, and other senior government officials.
While addressing security concerns, the governor urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to intensify military operations in Borno State, warning that lapses in offensive action could embolden insurgents.“ I am appealing to the Nigerian Armed Forces to be more committed. For some time, military operations have not been conducted in Borno State, and this has been instrumental to the renewed insurgency. We need to sustain continuous military operations to consolidate the gains recorded so far,” Zulum stressed.
