Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Records Multiple Development Strides in Kano

By Jabiru Hassan

Kano State Governor, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, has recorded a series of notable achievements across key sectors within a short period, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to development, cultural preservation, and good governance.

According to a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s recent successes include cultural restoration, international recognition, infrastructure expansion, and improved governance initiatives.

One of the governor’s key projects is the restoration of the first residence of the colonial administrators in Kano, now renamed Palma House. The historic building, renovated to preserve its architectural heritage, has been converted into a museum stocked with archival books, photographs, and records dating back more than a century.

During a recent visit, the Rwandan Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Christophe Bezivamo, commended Governor Yusuf for his foresight in restoring the landmark, describing it as a valuable contribution to preserving Kano’s rich history for future generations.

In a related development, the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, conferred the country’s highest gold medal on Governor Yusuf for his exemplary leadership and his efforts to promote Pan-African unity through education, economic empowerment, and human capital development. The award, according to the statement, aligns with the ideals of the Kwankwasiyya philosophy, which emphasizes education, equity, and empowerment.

On the domestic front, the governor directed security agencies to hold regular strategic meetings to identify and address the root causes of insecurity across the state. He reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure lasting peace and stability in Kano.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) also issued a commendation letter to the governor, recognizing his commitment to reforming critical sectors to improve public welfare and living standards.

In the power sector, the Kano State Government announced plans to acquire majority shares in the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to strengthen its role in power generation, transmission, and distribution. The state executive council also approved a new electricity policy designed to provide a clear roadmap for sustainable energy development and accountability.

Further emphasizing inclusive development, Governor Yusuf disclosed plans to construct 50 low-cost housing estates across the 36 local government areas outside Kano metropolis. The initiative aims to provide affordable housing for low- and middle-income earners, bridging the infrastructure gap and improving living standards across the state.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration continues to attract both national and international recognition, positioning Kano as a center of progressive governance, historical preservation, and sustainable development.
