Troops of the 12 Brigade, in collaboration with other security agencies in Lokoja, Kogi State, have arrested a Nigerian Air Force personnel, ACM Anas Muhammed Fakai, for allegedly transporting firearms to Abuja. The arrest took place at the Kabba Junction area of Lokoja at about 10:22 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.According to a statement issued by the Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Fakai was intercepted while conveying two pump-action guns and one Browning pistol. The personnel, with service number 23/42603, is attached to the 107 Air Maritime Group located along Airport Road in Benin, Edo State.
Troops reportedly arrested the suspect in a joint operation with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Lokoja. During interrogation, Fakai claimed the weapons were handed to him by an officer identified as Inspector Paul, who is said to be serving in Benin, Edo State. He further alleged that he was instructed to deliver the firearms to one Constable Mohammed Auwal Haliru at the Police Headquarters in Abuja.The statement added that Inspector Paul is reportedly attached to the Edo State Government House. Preliminary investigations also revealed that Fakai attended the Nigeria Police Secondary School in Gusau, Zamfara State, between 2015 and 2019.
The Army spokesperson confirmed that the suspect and the recovered weapons are currently in custody pending further directives from higher authorities. Security agencies are expected to intensify investigations to determine the extent of the network involved in the alleged arms movement.
