After 27 Years, Kaduna Engineer Wins Legal Battle Against KDSG Agency, Recovers Property

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A Kaduna-based engineer, Augustine Aneke, has regained ownership of his property on Plot T.19 Katsina Road after a 27-year legal battle with Kaduna Line Limited, formerly known as the Kaduna State Transport Authority (KSTA).The long-running dispute, filed under suit No. KDH/KAD/675/25, centered on the title and ownership of the property. Justice J.A. Ambi of the Kaduna State High Court delivered the final judgment on November 17, 2025, ruling in favour of Aneke.According to a statement made available to journalists on Friday, the court affirmed Aneke as the lawful and beneficial owner of the property after decades of litigation.

Before the latest decision, the Court of Appeal, Kaduna Division, had issued a perpetual injunction restraining Kaduna Line Limited from interfering with Aneke’s ownership and peaceful possession. The transport agency challenged the ruling at the Supreme Court, but the apex court dismissed its appeal. The property, covered by Certificate of Occupancy No. KD/2392 dated August 29, 1998, had earlier been declared the rightful possession of Aneke by the High Court on April 29, 2014.Speaking to reporters, counsel to the judgment creditor, Barr. Casmir Ugwoke, described the case as a “well-deliberated litigation” that spanned more than two decades.“The matter started at the Kaduna State High Court and proceeded through the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court. In all of these stages, my client won. Today calls for celebration,” Ugwoke said.

The ruling marks the conclusion of a protracted property dispute that began in 1999, bringing closure to one of Kaduna’s longest-running civil cases.
