Riyom Council Chairman Commissions Key Projects, Reaffirms Commitment to Security and Development

By Israel Adamu, Jos

The Executive Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council, Hon. Bature Sati Shuwa, has commissioned several completed projects across the Riyom Local Government Area as part of his administration’s efforts to improve security, healthcare, and education. The commissioning tour, which took place across multiple communities, marked a significant milestone in the council’s drive toward sustainable community development.

The exercise began in the Ganawuri District, where Hon. Shuwa inaugurated the newly renovated Danwal Police Station. He noted that strengthening security infrastructure remains a top priority for his administration.Speaking during the ceremony, the Chairman called on residents to support security agencies in maintaining peace. He also announced the donation of a brand-new motorcycle to enhance police surveillance operations.Hon. Shuwa urged community members to protect public facilities established in their areas, emphasizing that these investments are designed to serve present and future generations. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to executing people-centered projects that will stimulate development and improve livelihoods across the LGA.

Former Minister of Sports, Hon. Damishi Sango, speaking on behalf of the Danwal community, commended the Chairman for prioritizing security initiatives. He appealed to both the Council Chairman and the Plateau State Government to provide a functional patrol vehicle to further enhance law enforcement efforts. “Without security, nothing will move and no one will sleep,” he stated.

Similarly, the Leader of the Riyom PDP Elders Forum, Ngo Mary Dang, praised Hon. Shuwa for achieving meaningful development despite the council’s limited resources, much of which she noted had been diverted to addressing persistent security challenges. The project tour continued with the commissioning of new Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities in Wereng and Tahoss. The centres are expected to expand access to basic healthcare services, promote safe delivery, and reduce infant mortality rates in rural communities.Additional projects commissioned include the renovation of a three-classroom block and office at LEA Primary School, Kyi, aimed at improving learning conditions and increasing school enrollment. The Chairman also unveiled the new Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) office in Riyom, which replaces a previously vandalized office and is expected to support improved administrative processes ahead of future elections.

Another major highlight was the unveiling of a solar-powered cold chain facility funded by the German Government (GIZ) and implemented by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in collaboration with the Riyom Local Government Council. The facility will preserve vaccines and essential drugs used to prevent and control zoonotic disease outbreaks. At LEA Primary School, Kyi, residents—especially schoolchildren and mothers—welcomed the Chairman with songs, describing the interventions as timely and impactful.Goodwill messages were delivered by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Gwong Song; Riyom PDP Chairman, Hon. Tama Song; Secretary of the Riyom Elders Forum, Da Yusuf Kwon; Gwom Tahoss, Da Kim Dalyop; Gwom Wereng, Da Davou Gyang; and the Head Teacher of LEA Kyi, Mrs. Martha Mwanti.
