Northern CAN Hails Gen. Musa’s Appointment as Defence Minister, Says Tinubu Showing Renewed Commitment to End Insecurity

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), 19 Northern States and Abuja, has congratulated former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd), on his appointment as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence. President Bola Tinubu appointed Musa earlier in the week following the resignation of former Defence Minister Abubakar Badaru on health grounds. In a statement issued on Friday, the Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, said the appointment reflects President Tinubu’s renewed commitment to tackling insecurity across the country. He noted that the President has demonstrated responsiveness to public concerns by selecting a seasoned military officer whose reputation for courage, discipline and operational excellence is well established.

Northern CAN highlighted General Musa’s previous contributions to national security, recalling that his leadership as Chief of Defence Staff played a major role in stabilising several operational theatres, particularly in the North-East and North-West. The association said his return to the nation’s security architecture at ministerial level is expected to further strengthen efforts against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.

The organisation appealed to citizens, traditional rulers, community leaders and security stakeholders to support the new Minister of Defence. It stressed that national security requires collective vigilance, unity of purpose and broad-based cooperation. Northern CAN also urged General Musa to prioritise the welfare of frontline troops, enhance inter-agency collaboration and ensure swift responses to emerging threats nationwide. It called on the Federal Government to continue investing in modern equipment, advanced technology and intelligence systems, noting that Nigerians expect measurable improvements in security outcomes in the coming months.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace, unity and responsible civic engagement, the association expressed confidence that General Musa’s appointment would help rebuild public trust in the nation’s security institutions. Northern CAN added that, as a moral voice, it would continue to advocate policies that promote national stability and the collective good.
