The Forum of Igala Traditional Chiefs in Karu, Nasarawa State, has hailed the appointment of Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, describing the decision as a timely boost to national security at a period of rising security challenges across the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Forum’s Chairman, HRH (Dr.) Yunusa Al Ce Salifu Alide Omakoyi Ogah Attah, and its Secretary, the traditional rulers said Lt.-Gen. Shaibu’s elevation reflects his “unwavering dedication, professional excellence, and exemplary leadership” in the Nigerian Army.
They expressed confidence that the new Army Chief will bring renewed vigour to national defence efforts.
“We are confident that he will discharge his duties with distinction and contribute immensely to strengthening Nigeria’s defence and security architecture,” the Forum said.
The chiefs offered prayers for God’s guidance and protection for Lt.-Gen. Shaibu as he assumes command. “May the Almighty God grant him more wisdom, strength, and divine protection as he leads the Nigerian Army to greater heights,” the statement added.
The Forum also congratulated Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, and the Attah Igala, HRM (Dr.) Mathew Alaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa II, noting that Shaibu’s appointment is a source of pride for the Igala nation.
They further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they described as a thoughtful decision in selecting “a worthy son of Igala land” to lead the Army at such a critical moment for national security.
Expressing optimism about the future, the Forum said it believes Lt.-Gen. Shaibu’s tenure will usher in progress, stability, and renewed commitment to protecting the country.
“We are hopeful that his leadership will bring honour, peace, and progress to Nigeria,” the chiefs stated.
