Popular TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command after a reckless driving incident that resulted in a road crash.
The arrest follows the viral circulation of a video showing Peller driving at high speed during a live-stream session, losing control of his vehicle, and crashing. The clip sparked widespread concern over public safety and the dangers of risky stunts by social media influencers.
The Lagos State Police confirmed that the incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and described Peller’s actions as “extremely dangerous,” posing serious threats to both his life and other road users.
In an official statement, the police said:
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘Peller’ for further investigation subsequent to the viral video. His reckless driving during a live stream caused a serious motor accident and endangered his life and the lives of others. His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangers innocent people.”
Authorities noted that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation, assuring that the process will be transparent and in accordance with the law. The suspect is expected to be charged before a competent court.
Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers and the public:
“Social media platforms must not be used to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, unlawful, or criminal acts. Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law will be applied on any offender.”
The police further urged all road users to comply with traffic regulations and reaffirmed their commitment to public safety.
The incident has reignited calls from Nigerians for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent influencers and other motorists from risking lives for online attention.
