Popular Nigerian comedian Afamefuna Klint Igwemba, widely known as Klint Da Drunk, has revealed why he abandoned music for comedy, describing the decision as one he has never regretted.
In a recent interview on Naija FM Lagos, Klint disclosed that he initially pursued a career in music while studying at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu. However, his passion for music faded after witnessing a performance by fellow student and music star 2Face Idibia.
According to him, watching 2Face perform made him realise that music was not his true calling.
“I used to be a musician until 2Face got admitted to my school, IMT,” he said. “One day, he came on stage to perform at an event on campus. I left the hall, but the organisers begged me to stay and perform after him.”
Klint explained that after hearing just a few lines of 2Face’s performance, he decided to quit music altogether.
“I agreed to perform, but after hearing him sing just two lines, I went home. I didn’t realise then that our styles were different. If I had known, I might have continued with music. But thank God I didn’t. I love where I am today,” he added.
Before fully embracing comedy, Klint Da Drunk featured in the popular hip-hop song ‘Obodo’ by rapper Mr Raw. He also co-founded a music group with Mr Raw, which competed in the Star Quest talent show in 2002, finishing as runners-up behind KC Presh.
Since transitioning to comedy, Klint Da Drunk has enjoyed a successful career, featuring in several Nollywood movies including Men on the Run, Madam 10/10, Fast Cash, and Lost Kingdom, among others.
